Roddick to face Del Potro in finals

08 August 2009

Top seed Andy Roddick, returning from injury, and defending champion Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina will face each other in the finals of the Legg Mason Classic in Washington on Sunday.
Juan Martin Del Potro serves to Fernando Gonzalez at the Legg Mason Classic on Saturday in Washington.
1 of 2 Roddick, who notched his 500th career win during the tournament, defeated unseeded John Isner 6-7 (3), 6-2, 7-5, in an all-American semi-final on Saturday.
It marked the first time during the tournament that Roddick dropped a set, as he bid for a fourth title in the hardcourt event. He also beat Isner in the 2007 final.
The 26-year-old world No. 5 is playing in his first tournament since suffering a hip injury during his heartbreaking defeat by Roger Federer in an epic Wimbledon final.
In the other semifinal, No. 2 Del Potro defeated fourth seed Fernando Gonzalez of Chile 7-6 (2), 6-3.
Before his defeat to Del Potro, Gonzalez had a winning 3-0 career record against del Potro, but their previous meeting was at the 2007 Australian Open.
In doubles action, Martin Damm of the Czech Republic and Robert Lindstedt of Sweden advance to the final after 2008 and 2009 Wimbledon doubles champions Daniel Nestor of Canada and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia pulled out due to a player injury.
